My last blog entry came from across the Gallic divide and indeed I have been back in that direction recently to test the exciting Bahama range on the Ile de Re in subzero conditions and look forward to seeing the island bathed in sunshine when I return in June (both the 20 and 23 are on our website under contemporary classics and I have lots of photos for anyone who might be interested in a boat equally at home on river or sea with interchangeable outboards).
Closer to home I thought faithful blogites might be interested to see some photos of last weekend’s launch at Rollesby Broad where the 26ft Phantom launch, Gentleman Jim, now lives as part of the new Waterside complex. The owners and the operators are very proud of their new electric boat as is the agent and erstwhile ex chairman of the Electric Boat Association, photographed here at the helm with her grebe brooch in prime position.
Many members of the public have already enjoyed their 40 minute wildlife tours of Rollesby Broad (an area of scientific interest etc) where the water fowl and bird life is abundant. The venerable Gentleman Jim will also be available for private parties with or without picnics. The intention in the evenings is to offer an opportunity for pre dinner drinks on board as the restaurant is open through out the day and then into the evening for candlelit dinners. Locals tell me that it is impossible to get a reservation for the next three weeks so Mike Minors who is a partner in the new business must be delighted. Do check it out next time you are in Norfolk. I intend to return for an on board picnic in the not too distant future.
If you are interested in further information on the Phantom, built by Rupert Latham of Classic Boatworks, we would be happy to help. Henley Sales & Charter Ltd. are sole agents for both the Phantom, and the Otter 26 which is built in similar style on the same GRP hull by Goodchild in conjunction with Riverbank Boats. One Otter 26 has been built for people with a disability to mark the regeneration project of Taunton Town Centre. Please contact us for details on either of these beautiful newly designed boats which can like Gentleman Jim be furnished simply with a large open cockpit and a loo or with a good cabin facility encompassing day berths and a galley
